Sau bản revision tháng 9/2023, GRE chỉ còn một bài Analytical Writing duy nhất: Analyze an Issue, 30 phút. Bài Argument task đã được gỡ bỏ.
Rubric giải thích
ETS chấm holistic trên một thang 0–6, bước 0.5. Không có rubric trait riêng — reader chấm tổng thể theo mô tả band.
Band 6 (Outstanding)
Phân tích cogent, position rõ, ví dụ thuyết phục và mở rộng, counter-perspective được engage, ngôn ngữ chuẩn xác.
Band 5 (Strong)
Position rõ, support sound, tổ chức hợp lý, ngôn ngữ đa dạng, ít lỗi.
Band 4 (Adequate)
Position có, support liên quan, tổ chức đủ, ngôn ngữ rõ nghĩa.
Band 3 (Limited)
Position mờ, support yếu hoặc chung chung, lapses tổ chức.
Band 2 (Seriously flawed)
Position không rõ, support thin, organization deficient.
Band 1 (Fundamentally deficient)
Không có position, development, và lỗi pervasive.
Cách tính điểm
Một tiêu chí holistic 0–6, bước 0.5. Thang TWO-reader (người thứ nhất và thứ hai đọc độc lập, chênh lệch >1 kích hoạt third reader).
Note
Sai directive type (vd: address both views khi đề hỏi extent of agreement) cap Band 4.
Khác biệt giữa các band / cấp độ
Directive type 1
"Agree or disagree with a statement." Essay phải đánh giá extent of agreement.
Directive type 2
"Agree or disagree with a claim AND the reason." Essay phải đánh giá cả claim lẫn reason.
Directive type 3
"Discuss which view more closely aligns." Phải chọn và lập luận.
Directive type 4
"Address compelling reasons to challenge your position." Essay phải engage counter-argument.
Directive type 5
"Discuss views on a policy and explain your reasoning." Phải đánh giá policy implications.
Directive type 6
"Address both views and explain which aligns with yours." Phải cover cả hai view trước khi chọn.

Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take.
